How to use
- Type the IPv4 address.
- Read the alternate notations and the range details.
- Copy the form your tool expects.
An IPv4 address is 32 bits, usually shown as four dotted numbers. This converter writes the same address in every notation used by tools and databases, and identifies the range it belongs to.
Questions about ip address converter
- Why does the decimal value look so large?
- The four octets are one unsigned 32-bit number, so 255.255.255.255 is 4294967295 in decimal.
- What is the reverse DNS name?
- The in-addr.arpa form used by DNS to look up the name of an address. It is a lookup key, not a guarantee that a name record exists.
- How do I tell private from public?
- The private ranges are listed in the address type row. Anything outside them is a public address, which is routable on the internet.
