SHA-256 Generator
Generate the SHA-256 hash of any text as hex or Base64, the digest format used for checksums, file verification, and content integrity checks.
How to use
- Type or paste the text.
- Choose hex or Base64 output.
- Copy the digest.
SHA-256 produces a 256-bit digest that is fast to compute and has no practical collision found. It is the safe default for integrity checks, which is different from password storage, where a slow key derivation function belongs.
Paste or type something above.
Questions about sha-256 generator
- Is SHA-256 right for passwords?
- No. Password hashing needs a slow, salted function such as PBKDF2, which is why the password hash tool exists.
- Hex or Base64?
- Both carry the same digest. Hex is the usual choice for command line comparison, and Base64 is shorter.
- Does it add a newline?
- No. The digest covers exactly the characters you typed.
