Passive Voice Checker
Find sentences that use the passive voice, with the suspected verb and a rewritten active version when the sentence names who did the action.
How to use
- Paste your text into the box.
- Read the sentences that were flagged.
- Rewrite them in the active voice where it matters.
A passive voice checker finds sentences where the action is hidden behind a form of to be, such as the report was written. Naming who did the action usually makes a sentence shorter and clearer.

Questions about passive voice checker
- Is passive voice always wrong?
- No. It is correct when the action matters more than the actor, and in scientific descriptions where the actor is genuinely unknown.
- Why does it flag some sentences wrongly?
- Detection works on the be-verb plus participle pattern, so a sentence can be flagged even when it reads fine. Treat the list as a review queue.
- Does it rewrite the sentence?
- Only when the sentence contains an agent phrase with by, because only then is the rewrite unambiguous.
