Cron Expression Generator
Build a cron expression from schedule choices and see a plain-English description with the next five run times, ready to paste into crontab.
How to use
- Set the minute, hour, date, month, and weekday.
- Read the expression and the plain-English line.
- Copy the crontab line into your scheduler.
A cron expression is five fields that tell a scheduler when to run a job: minute, hour, day of month, month, and day of week. This generator builds one from plain choices and shows when it will next fire.
Questions about cron expression generator
- Which timezone does cron use?
- The scheduler decides, which is commonly UTC on a server. Schedulers such as Kubernetes CronJobs take an explicit time zone, so set it there rather than assuming.
- How do I express the last day of the month?
- Use a capital L in the day-of-month field. Support varies by scheduler, so check yours before relying on it.
- Does the order of day-of-month and day-of-week matter?
- When both are restricted, most schedulers run on a day that matches either field. Setting one to an asterisk makes the rule unambiguous.
