Character Counter
Count characters in your text with or without spaces, plus bytes, lines, and paragraphs, for form limits, meta tags, and SMS budgets. Handy for meta tags.
How to use
- Paste your text into the box.
- Choose whether spaces count, and whether the case is kept.
- Read the totals as you type.
A character counter measures the length of a text. Platforms that set hard limits, such as a meta description or a social post, count characters differently from word processors, so the with-spaces and without-spaces totals are reported side by side.

Questions about character counter
- Why do I need both totals?
- Search snippets and titles are often limited by character count including spaces, while keyword density uses the count without them.
- What is the byte count for?
- Storage and upload limits are measured in bytes, so an emoji counts as more than one byte even though it is one character.
- Does it count emoji correctly?
- Yes. Characters are counted as a person would type them, while the byte row shows what a file actually takes up.
