Speaking Time Calculator
Calculate how long your script takes to say out loud at your speaking pace, with extra time allowed for punctuation pauses and delivery. Useful for a video script.
How to use
- Paste your script into the box.
- Set your speaking speed and how long you pause at punctuation.
- Read the base time and the total.
A speaking time calculator estimates how long a script takes to read aloud. It adds pause time for punctuation, because a script that looks short on the page still needs breath and emphasis when it is delivered.

Questions about speaking time calculator
- What is a normal speaking pace?
- Around 130 words per minute for a presentation, and 100 to 110 for a voice-over or narration.
- How is pause time worked out?
- Full stops and commas add time, because a presenter breathes at punctuation. Turn the setting to zero to exclude it.
- What if my script runs long?
- Cut about 130 words per minute to save a minute, or split the script across two segments.
