Base64 Decoder
Decode a Base64 string back to text, with UTF-8 validation and a hex dump when the decoded bytes turn out to be binary rather than readable text.
How to use
- Paste the Base64 string.
- Turn on strict text checking to reject non-UTF-8 bytes.
- Copy the decoded text, or read the hex dump for binary data.
A Base64 decoder turns an encoded string back into bytes. When those bytes are valid UTF-8 text you get the text, and when they are binary you get a hex dump so you can inspect them.
Paste or type something above.
Questions about base64 decoder
- What does the hex dump show?
- The decoded bytes when they are not printable text: offset, sixteen bytes in hex, then the ASCII column.
- Why did strict checking fail?
- The bytes are not valid UTF-8, which usually means the original was a binary file rather than text.
- Can it decode URL-safe Base64?
- Yes. Turn on URL-safe input and hyphens and underscores are converted back before decoding.
